In recent years, the entertainment company Netflix began making their own TV shows. House of Cards was Netflix’s first big show, and it has been very popular. This drama tells the story of Frank Underwood, a politician in Washington D.C., and his beautiful and intelligent wife, Claire. The Underwoods are both very powerful, and they usually get what they want.

Kevin Spacey plays Frank Underwood, and he plays opposite Robin Wright. Fans of House of Cards don’t know who steals the show more. Both of these actors are phenomenal! People who watch this show often get goose bumps when Frank Underwood directly addresses the camera and tells the audience about his plans for taking more power and control in Washington D.C.

The fourth season of House of Cards is now available, and Andy can’t wait to talk about it with Jessica. Listen to their conversation in today’s English lesson.

Andy_H:  I just finished the fourth season of House of Cards. Let me tell you… wait… You’ve seen the fourth season, right?

Jessica:  I have not, Andy. Please, don’t spoil it for me!

Andy_H:  Oh, absolutely! I would never want to rob you of something wonderful! It started out as the first show that Netflix produced themselves, and the acting is phenomenal!

Jessica:  It’s incredible! I was blown away by Robin Wright, who… I don’t know if you remember… was the Princess Bride. And to see her looking so mature and in such an incredibly challenging role, opposite Kevin Spacey… They’re incredible together! And I believe they won some awards for this show.

Andy_H:  Oh yeah. I think they got an Emmy. And Robin Wright… man, what a fantastic actress! But let’s talk about Kevin Spacey. He steals the show as President Frank Underwood.

Jessica:  Absolutely.

Andy_H:  And his direct address, when he looks right into the camera and talks straight to you… it’s almost chilling.

Jessica:  I have goose bumps. I love it! I can’t wait to watch the fourth season. And then we’ll have to get together and talk all about it.

Andy_H:  We sure will.

Andy just finished watching the fourth season of House of Cards, and he wants to talk to someone about it. Jessica tells him not to spoil it for her because she hasn’t seen it yet. However, she is a big fan of this popular TV show. She loves Robin Wright’s acting and remembers when she played the Princess Bride 30 years ago. Jessica think Robin Wright is now very mature and fantastic for her new role.

Andy agrees that Robin Wright is a phenomenal actor, but he believes that Kevin Spacey steals the show as Frank Underwood. When Kevin Spacey speaks directly to the camera, it has a chilling effect. Andy is blown away by his amazing acting. He promises not to spoil the fourth season for Jessica, but he is excited to talk more about it later.

Have you seen House of Cards? What is your favorite TV show about politics?

I have seen a lot of TV shows like 24, Lost, Breaking Bad, Agents of Shield, Nikita  but not yet, House of Cards. And also I have seen The Americans and I follow it and how I met your mother.

I remember most of them has scenes which get me goose bumps. Seeing these type of series is a way to learn English and be accustom to American culture.

I haven´t seen House of Cards or any other political show. I used to watched  a more lightly and funny show ” The Big Bang Theory” . I have said “I used ” because the new season , at least for me , has lost its charm. A bummer,
