Coconut water has been a favorite drink in tropical areas of the world for thousands of years. It comes from young coconuts and has a mildly sweet flavor. Recently, many people have started drinking coconut water because they have heard about its hydrating and beneficial nutrients. Customers buy coconut water to bump up their energy and feel good.

However, some people think coconut water is a fad. They think that marketing teams are doing a good job of selling coconut water by calling it organic and infusing it with a lot of different flavors. They believe that there are a lot of other fresh foods that have more vitamins and minerals than coconut water.

Jessica and Gary discuss their thoughts on coconut water and if it’s just another fad. Find out what they think in today’s English lesson about coconut water.

Jessica:  A friend just introduced me to coconut water. Have you ever had coconut water?

Gary:  I have.

Jessica:  Oh, it is delicious. I had a pineapple infused coconut water, and it was so good. I know that it’s probably a fad...

Gary:  Do you think that it’s a fad?

Jessica:  Well, yeah, I think it’s a little trendy.

Gary:   I kind of feel like it’s a big fad myself.

Jessica:  Really?

Gary:  Yeah, I feel like there are all of these drinks out there and foods that people are trying to say, “Hey it’s natural, so it’s really good for you.” And of course organic is a new trend as well. It’s a big fad. Hey, we can grow this and say it’s organic, and we can bump up the price and sell it, and it’s super profitable.

Jessica:  Right. But I don’t have any evidence, but I do know that it’s supposed to be beneficial for you if your drink it.

Gary:  I’ve heard that.

Jessica:  It’s very hydrating, it is organic, it has lots of nutrients and vitamins. So…

Gary:  I guess I don’t know. I feel like what you’re describing is a lot of marketing.

Jessica:  That’s true.

Gary:  It’s supposed to do this. It should do this. It will do this. I don’t know, I feel like it’s selling the idea of the drink. I mean, if you like the drink, then that’s fantastic, but boy are the prices so high. It must be such a profitable drink.

Jessica:  It’s true. All right, maybe, I’ll stick to regular water.

Jessica and Gary are talking about coconut water. Jessica thinks it is delicious and is telling Gary about the pineapple infused coconut water she bought. She knows that it is becoming a fad but thinks that the drink is good for you because it is hydrating and has beneficial nutrients.

Gary thinks coconut water is a marketing fad. He thinks companies just put the organic label on their products, so they can become more profitable. Gary doesn’t want to buy the new organic products because the prices are too high.

What is your opinion on organic food? Would you drink coconut water?

Hello Everyone. :) You all have wonderful ideas for drinks!

I like fresh and natural food, but it doesn’t need to be organic. I agree with Gary that companies use ‘organic’ labels to make more money. Sometimes, the product is better, but sometimes, it isn’t.

I like coconut water. It is best when it is fresh and inside a coconut!

I often drink fresh coconut water mixed with orange juice. I pluck coconuts from the tree, open them, drink some of the water, scrape the flesh of the coconut with a spoon and then pour in freshly squeezed Pontianak oranges into the coconut. The flesh is best enjoyed together with fresh orange juice as coconut water is plain.

Yes.I have drank the coconut water. I agree what Gary says.

Many drinks include coconut are mixed various additives and water, and even chemical substances. I don’t think it is healthy for our body if you often drink.

whatever it is said to good for your just is a ideal of selling, a means of market. Yes, in some sense, it is also said to be a kind of deception, a kind of mislead to customers.

I know coconut is pretty popular in all forms recently. I don’t mind trying coconut water but I’m afraid it’ s not gonna be with me for a long time.,
I recently bought xiangshan puerh tea. That goes well with me. I can drink it non stop. It’s good for 12 infusions and after I feel a colossal energy.
To each it’s own, but trying doesn’t hurt. It’s also good to discover your likes and dislikes. I’m a tea person – that’s my cup of tea.:)
