These days, it seems like a lot of people are obsessed with getting thin. But skinny hasn’t always been considered beautiful. Until recently, the ideal female figure was soft and curvy. And in some cultures, a bit of extra weight is still considered a good thing. But in the US, thin is definitely in, for men and women alike.

With so much pressure to be skinny, some people try to lose weight in extreme ways. But there are safe, healthy ways toget in shape, too. Listen to Devan and Beren talk about different strategies for shaving off those unwanted pounds and for a man’s perspective, take a look at Dale’s blog about losing weight.

Beren:  Do you work out?

Devan:  I do. I try to work out a fair amount. I don’t do it as often as I should. Like some people, you know, exercise several times a week. I don’t even get to the gym every week necessarily. But I try to go as often as I can. Because if you don’t hit the gym, you won’t get toned. And I want to have a toned body.

Beren:  Well, I’m trying to shave off some pounds. I’m trying to figure out the best way to lose weight. But all my friends are into fad dieting, like fasting’s a really big one right now. Like there’s the “Miracle Cleanse.”

Devan:  Yeah, my personal belief is it’s all about everything in moderation. I don’t think any of those fad diets really work. So, it’s all just about getting exercise, eating less. It’s just…Everything’s in moderation, you know? I’m all about just having a healthy lifestyle. Eating more fruits and vegetables and drinking lots of water and hitting the gym. That’s what works for me.

Beren:  Cool. Well, I’ll keep that in mind.

Devan:  Well, good luck getting in shape.

Beren would like to lose a little weight, but she isn’t sure how to do it. Some of her friends have tried to lose a lot of weight quickly by fasting. But Devan thinks that starving yourself in order to lose weight is unhealthy.

For Devan, the best way to get in shape is to eat healthy foods and work out. Some people who fast or try other fad diets, like eating nothing but red meat for every meal, do lose some weight, but quickly gain it back as soon as they go off the diet. Some people can eat whatever they want, never exercise, and still remain thin. But for most of us, staying in shape requires a consistent effort to be healthy.

What do you think is the best way to lose weight? Are people too obsessed with being thin?

Thanks God that I have no problems with my weight, therefore I can eat what ever I want 24 hours a dayLaughing

Nevertheless I agree with the statement that today to being thin is for most of the people very important.

Maybe this is the reason why so many people become sick

Yes, I think people are being too obsessed by thin.. Concerning to me – I am possesing to "shave on" couple pounds. I would like to  get well. When I decided to do it, I eat very much. But, as Voltaire said, "Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity." So.. I give up to this idea..

The truth is you are what you eat !!, then if you are a healthly  person that cares about your life I mean about your lifestyle.  no dout you are gonna be what you want, me for example I go to gym every single day, not just on weekends , but every night I run , it's awesome coz when you begienning you don't wanna stop any more it's easy to do  grab your Ipod  listen a good song on there like 50 cent :D, or mp4, wear a good snearks and go you'll love and then you gonna see the results of your body is gonna be all tone, start making 30 minuts then loud for 1 hour ;) but take seriouly don't give up Wink

   for me its different that my mood controls my weight …yes, it is real that the fair mood makes me put in weight but the bad mood makes me loss alot of weight in spite of good eating…

I don't know what is the best way to get thin. I am used to eat healthy foods and drink a lot of water. Two times a week I run 4 km and play soccer on weekend. Sleep early and wake up early is very good too.

 Even though I eat alot since I was young I never gained weight until now. Do you believe that my body weight is constant from 20years ago. I want to gain  weight. I hate to eat vegetables and fruits. I 'd like to eat meet and fish. I only drink water. My body weight is only 42kg, some of my friends call me  skinny girl. Sometimes I think that lose or gain weight is independent on kinds of food or doing sports or daily life style. Some people eat alot but not gain weight but somepeople get weight eventhough they not eat alot.

The best way to lose weight is a lot of sport. It doesn't matter what sport you do – tennis, football, basketball or boks – every can you help with lose your weight. Fortunatly I haven't problem with this – I do a lot of exercise, eat many fruit and vegetables and I feel healthly
