People most often use “bread and butter” in reference to a specific skill. For example, Michael Jordan’s “bread and butter” in basketball was the turn-around jump shot. He was very good at making the shot, and would shoot it when it was very important for his team to score.
You can use “bread and butter” to describe something you’re good at. For example, if you’re very good at math and you always do very well on math tests, then math is your “bread and butter.” It’s something that comes very easy to you and which you’re very successful at.
